288) Freckles & His Friends…
Merrill Blosser (1892-1983) was the cartoonist behind the long running comic strip Freckles and His Friends (1915-1971).
Blosser’s style evolved a great deal during the early years of its run. The strip began as a very cartoonish feature that centered around Freckles McGoosey, a young boy of about eight years old.

Over time the strip became slicker in its drawing style and matured its cast of characters to their teenage years, not too dissimilar to the characters appearing in Archie comics.

The humor was gentle and wholesome, leading many critics to label the strip “boring.” But it survived for fifty-six year, a very respectable run for any comic.
